Chocolate and Avocado Mousse

This rich dark chocolate mousse has a delicate spicy flavour.  Its velvety texture makes it a luxurious dessert – and with some healthy ingredients too!

1 ripe avocado pear – skin and stone removed

60g dark chocolate

30g runny honey

50ml almond milk

15g cocoa powder

Juice and zest of half a lime

1 teaspoon finely grated root ginger

½ teaspoon ground cinnamon

Large pinch ground allspice

Large pinch cayenne pepper


Flakes of chocolate and fresh berries to serve

In a small bowl place the avocado, lime juice, zest and root ginger.  Process with a handheld blender until smooth.

Place the chocolate, honey, almond milk, cocoa and spices in a heat proof bowl and place in a pan of simmering water.  Stir the chocolate mixture until melted and all ingredients are incorporated.

Add the chocolate mixture to the avocado mixture and process again until all ingredients are fully mixed.

Divide into 2 or 3 serving glasses and chill until required.  Before serving at room temperature decorate with fresh berries a few flakes of chocolate.
